Being a Slytherin

Subject: Being a Slytherin Tue 12 Feb 2008, 11:23 pm

Draco sat in the Slytherin common room, watching slowly as the fire died down. The boredom around here was getting to him. This Christmas break, Draco said that he had decided to stay at Hogwarts to take care of some business. This wasn't really true, but then again, he was able to lie well enough to get by. Sighing, he stood and left to the halls, pondering to himself what to do. He became so deep in thought that he barely noticed the foot step behind him, until they were right next to him.

Magdalene watched Draco as he left the common room. Acting upon mere whim, she stood and followed him swiftly out. She had always admired Draco, even if he was a year younger than her. There was just something about him... Draco seemed to be in deep thought, so Magdalene waited a little bit before following in stride beside him. "Hello." She said softly, looking ahead rather than at him.

Startled, Draco stopped mid step. "Oh, hello." he said in response. Its was just Magdalene. "You didn't go home for Christmas?" he asked, slightly confused. He had thought that he was the only Slytherin who had stayed. 'I guess I was just oblivious. I should notice these things! Come on, get it together!' Looking back to the ground, Draco stuffed his hands in his jean pockets and continued to walk. He really did want to talk to her, but it wasn't in his nature to go after the girl. Usually they came after him. 'What should I do? Ask her to stay?' he thought.

"No, I stayed. My parents are never home over breaks, so I'd rather stay somewhere enjoyable. I'm surpirsed that you of all people stayed. The way my father speaks of your house it seems that you have it all. Who would want to stay in this old castle when you have an elegant house waiting for you? I guess you can get away with alot more here than at home..." Magdalene said, lost in thought as she tried to guess why Draco wouldn't go home.

"Yeah, well, if you knew my father, then you would know why" he said. He stopped and slumped down against the cold stone wall. He took off his shoes, letting the cold stone sooth his hot feet. Looking up at Magdalene, he motioned for her to sit next to him. He leaned his head back against the wall and closed his eyes. 'Maybe I can trust her.' he thought.

Magdalene was happy that Draco was being friendly with her. She sat beside him, pressing her back to the cold wall firmly. It was way to hot in this corridor. It wasn't normal dungeon temperature. Maybe Neville Longbottom blew something up in Potions again. "Do you often go off without Crabbe and Goyle? They seem to be your shadow." Magdalene asked, turning to look at Draco AND press her face upon the cool wall.

Draco chuckled. "Yes. I try to lose them when I have time to myself. They really don't know what to do with themselves without me. It's pitiful really." Draco smiled at Magdalene. "Do you have "friends" like that? Surely you must have some admirer..." he said. 'SHIT! What the hell am I doing?' He paled slightly (if that is even possible) This wasn't like him. Maybe the hot air was getting to him.

Magdalene smile. By the way Draco's face changed colors slightly, she could tell he hadn't meant to say that. "No, I don't really have friends that follow me everywhere like that. I think that if I did, they end up hung from their ankles somewhere, or at least at the bottom of the Black Lake." Magdalene smiled to herself. She could picture a few of her friends lying motionlessly on the bottom of the lake. She shook her head and looked away from Draco.

'Well, doesn't she has a devilish mind.' he thought. The color in his cheeks was starting to come back now. "I don't think I would go that far with my friends, but maybe Potter. And that mudblood." Draco sneered as he spat out the names. He hated them so much. 'Well, at least father would be pleased if I were to accomplish such a feat.' His eyes glazed over with anger. Father. Draco pounded his fist into the hard stone floor. His breathing quickened as the memories, all the horrid memories started to flood his mind. Tears prickled at this eyes.

Magdalene was startled at Draco's sudden change in mood. She slowly inched away from him until she was at a safe distance. She clutched her wand under her cloak just in case something happened.

Draco snapped back into reality at the scratching noise beside him. Picking his head up, he look next to him to find the Magdalene had moved away. 'Damn.' he thought. His eyes softened up and he carefully stood. "I'm sorry. You, or anybody else, shouldn't have to see me like this. I guess I'll leave now." 'Now she won't ever want to talk to me. F**k. I just messed it up again.' He stuffed his hands back into his pockets and started walking down the hall, back to the common room.

"Wait!" Magdalene called, panicking. She didn't want him to leave! Magdalene stood up quickly, praying he would turn around and talk.

Draco rubbed a stray tear away and turned around. "You still want to talk to me after what just happened?" Draco was surprised. Usually, girls just got scared and let him walk away. He was starting to think that she was special, different some how. He scratched his head and walked back a few paces. "We... could go back to the common room... and, you know, talk some more... maybe?" 'Man I'm getting soft! Wait! Am I blushing? What the bloody hell is wrong with me?!?!'

Magdalene laughed when she saw that he was blushing. She stepped toward him a tad. "Sure, why not. Let's go back to the Common Room." She said before smiling and walking past him, back toward the Common Room.

Draco turned on his heel and caught up to Magdalene. The walk back to the common room was silent, but at least now the air wasn't so thick. Once back at the common room, he went straight to his favorite couch. He put his feet up on the coffee table and yawned. "So, what should we do over Christmas break?" he asked. He closed his eyes and let his head fall back onto the back of the couch.

Magdalene followed Draco, but instead sat upon a chair near him. She thought about what she did want to do over the break. "I heard the Weasley twins stayed. They have this weird charm about them. Maybe we could prank them for a change. Or just bother Potter to the point of insanity." Magdalene suggested. She was out of ideas.

He chuckled. "Good ideas." he said. "I don't know though. I do that all school year, and this just seems like a good time to relax. No one to bother me. No classes. We could do something to the 'Golden Trio' though." Draco's did the little finger hyphenations as he said that. "And im kinda afraid of what the Weasel twins would do to us if we did prank them. But don't tell anyone that I said that." He looked straight into her eyes as he said this. He meant it.

She smiled. "Your secret is safe with me." She turned to look into the fire. All of her friends went home for the break and she wasn't sure if Draco would want to deal with her the whole time. Apparently she could get annoying, just by being her quiet self. she flinched at the thought of being alone for a while. maybe she could write to Milosh...

'Man, her smile is beautiful' Draco thought to himself. He grinned and layed down long ways on the couch. Sighing, he picked at loose strands of his hair. 'I wonder what she is thinking right now.'

Draco looked relaxed. The Common Room was rather relaxing for once. She bit her lip. more out of habit than anything, and began thinking of what to put in a letter and what to say to Draco next. This was getting tougher and tougher.

Turning over onto his stomach, he said "So, did all your friends go home over break?" He reached out and grabbed a chocolate from in a small bowl on the coffee table, unwrapped it, and plopped it in his mouth. He chewed thoughtfully, hoping that she would take more.

"Yeah, they all went home. It's kind of lonely without them, especially Milosh and Anne. They're very close to me." She whispered. She let out a sigh and turned away from Draco again.

"Milosh seems like an odd name" he said once he had swallowed. "But tell me about Anne..." He smiled to himself. This might not be such a boring holiday after all.

Magdalene smiled. "Anne is the greatest. She's everything I could ever want in a best friend. She's like me, but completely insane. I mean, I am pretty crazy, but she's worse. I wish she had stayed this Christmas, but she had 'things' to do, what that means."

"Hmmm. If she is like you, then I definitely want to meet her." He smiled at her. "We should go outside. Do you want to come?" he said standing and offering her a hand.
